Even with the best content on your niche site, you need to have backlinks going to your site or no one is going to find it. Backlinks are the main ranking factor with Google, even though there are about 200 other ranking factors.
There are lots of ways to get backlinks, but one of the best ways is with guest posting. Guest posting is generally immune from Google algorithm updates since networking and being part of the greater online community is exactly what Google would like.
What do I mean…?
In January, 2014, Matt Cutts (Head of the Google Spam Team at the time) said:
So stick a fork in it: guest blogging is done; it’s just gotten too spammy. In general I wouldn’t recommend accepting a guest blog post unless you are willing to vouch for someone personally or know them well. Likewise, I wouldn’t recommend relying on guest posting, guest blogging sites, or guest blogging SEO as a link building strategy.
But later he amended the post:
I’m not trying to throw the baby out with the bath water. There are still many good reasons to do some guest blogging (exposure, branding, increased reach, community, etc.). Those reasons existed way before Google and they’ll continue into the future. And there are absolutely some fantastic, high-quality guest bloggers out there. I changed the title of this post to make it more clear that I’m talking about guest blogging for search engine optimization (SEO) purposes.
So, yeah, I like guest posting after all the issues that I have observed with the (STILL) highly effective technique using Private Blog Networks. (Read the success stories here and you can see that a lot of people still swear by PBNs.)
A few weeks back Jim and I talked about hiring contractors (i.e. virtual assistants) as writers and content creators. That went well so we decided to do another video.
It’s a bit of a slow start since I was tired that morning, but it picks up, the caffeine kicks in, and we talk about some cool nuances in guest posting.
We talk about:
-How to choose where you link on your own site from guest posts
-Should you link to your affiliate articles
-How to think about anchor text
-The best way to get that anchor text
-Should you keep getting links to a page that’s already ranking #1
-Find out why Jim slowed down on guest posting
-Should you accept guest posts
Jim and I talk about guest posting details for niche sites.
