If you’re looking to get more followers to your blog, then a strategy you really need to put a large focus on is search engine optimization (SEO). Implementing proper SEO techniques can help you rank highly in Google (or other major search engines) for certain keywords, which in return can help you increase your organic traffic and get more blog followers. HOW TO GET BLOG FOLLOWERS USING SEARCH ENIGNE OPTIMIZATION
1.) TARGET THE RIGHT KEYWORD(S)
Far too many bloggers (and mainly those who are just starting out), target keywords that are too broad or competitive in nature. Instead, try to research and target keywords that are longer-tail, meaning they contain 3,4,5 or more words in a given phrase. The example used in the video was “dog training” versus “how to train a dog on a leash”. Longer-tail terms are much less competitive and can be easier to rank highly for.
2.) PLACE KEYWORDS WITHIN YOUR BLOG TITLE, URL & SEO TAGS
Once you’ve identified the keyword(s) you want to target, you will want to place these within your blog title, URL and SEO tags. The SEO tags I’m referring to are your title tags, meta descriptions, header tags and image ALT tags. Make sure that when adding keywords to any of these areas that you make them read and look natural as well. We do not want to keyword stuff here. Yes, we’re optimizing our blog content for SEO but we’re also optimizing it for human visitors as well. Only add your target keywords where it makes. (Note: Yoast is a great WordPress plugin to use for your blog’s SEO tags).
3.) CREATE LONG-FORM & COMPREHENSIVE STYLE CONTENT
Google more than ever is looking to rank articles highly in their search results that really cover a subject fully and in its entirety. Long-from content tends to rank really well and gives you more opportunity to target variations of your main term or phrase. Try to create blog content that is 1,500 words or more to give you a better chance of ranking highly. These types of articles are also excellent to get more blog followers, because you’ll be addressing questions, solving problems and providing solutions. Crafting comprehensive blog content that is valuable for readers has so many benefits.
4.) OPTIMIZE CONTENT PROPERLY
During or once you have all of your blog content written (for a particular post), it’s important to make sure it’s optimized properly as well. Where appropriate, add in your target keyword phrases into your copy and also internal links pointing to other posts on your blog where you see fit. Just like optimizing your blog title, URL and SEO tags, do not keyword stuff here and make this as natural as possible. Make sure to give Google enough of an idea of what your blog post is about but also make sure the content reads naturally to human visitors as well.
5.) GUEST POST LIKE CRAZY!
Guest posting has a couple of major benefits. First, it will help your overall SEO by building you a quality backlink and second, it will help increase the amount of referral traffic coming into your website. This strategy really can help shoot a particular blog post up in the search engines for keywords you are targeting (which can help you gain more blog followers). Also, the more guest posts you write, the more referral traffic you can potentially generate from people clicking on your link within your article (another tactic to get more followers to your blog). Guest posting is simply an awesome strategy to increase your blog following and get your brand out there.
6.) FOCUS ON YOUTUBE SEO
If you’re a blogger and don’t have a YouTube channel, I highly recommend you create one. If you do currently have a channel of your own, definitely leverage it to generate more blog followers. Learning YouTube SEO can positively impact your blog following and business. Getting your videos ranked highly in Google and YouTube search is a sure fire way to generate more traffic for your blog since you can add your article links within your video description. It can also be a great way to build up your email list as well and promote your products.
7.) CONSISTENCY
Last but not least, be consistent in all on the steps laid out above and especially with your content generation. Strive to publish fresh and valuable content each and every month to increase your blog followers.
